Only eight teams will participate in champions trophy 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the qualifying requirements for the Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host, as per a report  published on Sunday.

The top seven teams (not including Pakistan, the hosts) will earn berths for the 2025 ICC event. An ICC representative informed that the ICC Board approved this qualification framework back in 2021 when the tournament was reinstated as an eight-team competition, scheduled to take place in the 2024–2031 cycle.

Unfortunately, several cricket boards representing teams that did not qualify for the World Cup were not notified by the ICC about their participation in the Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC did not notify the World Cup that their performance in the current mega event will determine their eligibility for the Champions Trophy 2025. As a result, in 2025, teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland, and the West Indies won’t be allowed to participate in the eight-team competition.Notably, the Champions Trophy 2025 and 2029 will be among the international cricket competitions for men and women that the ICC announced in November 2021 as part of the 2024–2031 cycle.

It’s important to remember that the top eight teams in the world according to the ICC ODI rankings competed in the Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2017, which were won by India and Pakistan, respectively.

Furthermore, a Full Member board has verified that Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa would co-host the 14-team 2027 World Cup. The eight teams ranked highest in the ICC will automatically qualify, and four other teams will be awarded slots through worldwide qualifying competitions. South Africa and Zimbabwe will inevitably be the tournament hosts.

Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, stressed the significance of finishing in the top eight after his team’s unexpected victory over the Netherlands in the World Cup on Saturday. Despite this, his team is no longer in the running for the semi-finals. “I mean, not the hope of making it to the semifinals,” Shakib said. That isn’t going to happen. We can, at minimum, strive to do better. Remember that you must rank in the top 8 in order to compete for the Champions Trophy 2025. We are concentrating on it with three games left.
