Fir Registered against Mitchell Marsh in India

The 2023 World Cup has wrapped up, yet the focus remains on the host nation, India, due to ongoing controversies.

In the final match on November 19th, 2023, at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Australia clinched victory over India by six wickets.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh faced scrutiny from India after a viral social media photo showed him with his legs resting on the World Cup trophy.

An FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged against Marsh in Uttar Pradesh, India, by Pandit Keshav, an RTI Activist. The FIR highlights the concern that Marsh’s picture has offended the sentiments of many Indian fans following India’s defeat in the final match.

Pandit Keshav also forwarded a copy of the FIR to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, proposing a potential ban on Mitchell Marsh from participating in cricket within India.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami expressed his disappointment, stating, “I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fight, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy.”

This controversy isn’t the only one during the World Cup. Zainab Abbas from Pakistan faced significant backlash in India due to past tweets that upset Indian sentiments. Similarly, Mohammad Rizwan encountered issues when a complaint was lodged against him for performing Namaz (prayer) in the stadium, which was deemed objectionable.

Instances like these are not uncommon in India, which has shown a tendency toward intolerance, often raising objections and filing complaints even for minor issues.
